➩ Description

The Gaumukh Tapovan Trek — a Journey to the Sacred River The Ganges is considered the holiest river in Hinduism, and its origin may be found in Gaumukh, which is located on the Gangotri glacier. The glacier travels in a westerly direction and passes directly below Chaukhamba Peak, which is the highest point in the Group. This is the only Ganga valley from where a whole panorama of Bhagirathi peak can be seen, including Shivling Peak, Matri Peak, Raktvan, and Bhagirathi peaks I, II, and III. From this vantage point, one can also view the peaks of Tapovan and Nill Tal, which are both 4,400 metres high. The journey leads one to Gaumukh or moumukhi maa Ganga Bhojbasa after TM Program and breakfast. After entering the national park, you stroll along the banks of the Bhagirathi River while taking in the stunning environment and admiring the wonderful view of Shiv Ling Mountain. Along the way, you encounter pilgrims such as Sanyasis and Sadhus. At different locations, there are cosy little tent stores where you can take a break, get something warm to drink, and replenish your water supply. There will be several opportunities along the road to go on with the journey while riding a mule. Upon arrival, the TM programme allows participants to take in the breathtaking views of Shiv Ling Mountain. The name “Tapovan” originates from the Sanskrit roots “tapas,” which means “pain” or “suffering,” and “by.”

➩ Itinerary

Time: 9hrs approx.

Distance: 240kms

At 6:30 in the morning, everyone in the group will get together at the pickup place in Dehradun. Then, we'll travel towards Gangotri. The lengthy trip offers beautiful views of the Mountains, which may be seen in the background. After we arrive in Gangotri, we will check into the accommodations that have been reserved for us, and then we will spend the day at our own pace enjoying the neighbourhood market. After dinner, guests will spend the night at their accommodations in Gangotri.

After breakfast, tourists are encouraged to embark on a tour of the surrounding area, during which they should stop at the Gangotri temple as well as other prominent locations in the area, such as the Bhagirath Shila and the Pandava Gufa. After supper, we will retire for the night in Gangotri. In the morning, we will depart for our next destination.

Time: 6hrs approx.

Distance: 9kms

After breakfast, we are going to get started on our hiking adventure. Your hiking path is flanked on each side by the Bhagirathi River or by stands of pine trees. The length of the hike is made much less difficult by the steady ascents. After making your way through the paths of Gangotri National Park, you will finally be able to see the magnificent Sudarshan mountain, which will serve as an indication that you have arrived at the Chirbasa Campsite. Since the Bhagirathi river is winding its way through the mountains and the canopies of vegetation are so verdant, this camping spot is one of the most picturesque in the world. Dinner will be provided in the evening, and then everyone will retire to their own camps for the night.

Time: 3hrs approx.

Distance: 5kms

After taking in the breathtaking panorama of the mountains as we awoke and refuelling with breakfast, we will go to the next location for our overnight stay. This section of path is much simpler to navigate because to the gentle climb and the broader trails. Birch trees, which are abundant across the valley and are also the reason why the campground is named Bhojbasa, will soon come into view. Birch trees are the reason for this name. As soon as we get to the campground, we are going to kick back and relax for the rest of the day. Dinner will be provided in the evening, and then everyone will retire to their own camps for the night.

Time: 7hrs approx.

Distance: 9kms

After breakfast, we will get ourselves organised for the day that will be the longest of our hiking trip. The journey to Tapovan is not very difficult; nonetheless, the terrain is difficult, and there are few water sources along the way. Tapovan is well-liked among wise people who are interested in spirituality. Mount Shivling, which is widely regarded as one of the holiest mountains, can be seen in its entirety from this vantage point as well. When we get to Tapovan, we're going to check into the campground there. The evening will conclude with dinner, and then an overnight stay in Tapovan.

Time: 6hrs approx.

Distance: 9kms

We will pack up and leave our campground after breakfast, and then we will go in the direction of Gaumukh. It is the terminus of the Gangotri glacier, which is the place where the holy river Ganga first emerges from the earth. Since the path to Gaumukh is littered with stones, using care is strongly recommended. After taking in the majesty of the Gaumukh, we will begin our descent by retracing our ways through the sedimentation of glaciers and dirt paths as we make our way to Bhojbasa. When we get to the campground in Bhojbasa, we'll take the day off and do anything we want with it. After dinner, participants will spend the night in their own camps.

Time: 8hrs approx.

Distance: 14kms

When we have finished eating, we will pack up our belongings, check out of the campground, and begin our descent into Gangotri. The Bhagirathi River will follow you once again as you make your way back to the starting point. After arriving in Gangotri, we shall go directly to the accommodations that have been reserved for us. The remainder of the day is yours to do as you like. After dinner, guests will spend the night at their accommodations in Gangotri.

➩ Fitness

As you climb to higher altitudes, the air grows thinner and less oxygen is present. The amount of oxygen in our blood is equivalent to the proportion of haemoglobin that is saturated with oxygen. At altitudes above around 2,100 metres (7,000 feet), the amount of oxygen carried by our blood starts to decrease. At the same time, the human body possesses both immediate and long-term adaptations to altitude that help it somewhat compensate for the shortage of oxygen.
